New Music Tuesday:Taylor Swift
New music Tuesday..on Wednesday…I know I know. Give me a break this time
Some of you are like “what is new music Tuesday?” Well my goal is to introduce you to a new artist or album every Tuesday but lately I’ve been failing to do so. It’s not that there isn’t some great music out there…it’s just that I haven’t had much time to listen to it!
But moving on…
Yesterday Taylor Swift released her new album “Speak Now ” and my hubbie was awesome enough to buy it for me! If you don’t know who Taylor Swift is or haven’t heard her music because it’s country…I suggest you take a few minutes and give her a chance. Not only has this young artist brought country to mainstream radio, but she plays her own music and writes her own songs. Not so easy to do…especially not at the quality she’s doing it! For those of you who are Taylor fans…you will NOT be disappointed with this new album!
As with most of her songs, you are brought through a situation/story that emotionally attaches you to the characters she sings about. Whether it be about love or heartbreak or even a need for revenge, this album covers it all and it covers it well. There was actually a song where at the end I said outloud (to my tv i was playing it on) “so what happened??” haha. Her music tells a story while still having you sing along – not commonly done these days.
So I highly suggest you check out this album and support this young talented girl. Use the link above to purchase it!

New Music Tuesday:Andrew Peterson
As a brand new mom I’m constantly searching for ways to soothe my crying baby. As a lover of music, I’m determined to find that perfect tune that will put a smile on my little girl’s face. I tried the baby tunes and the classical music as many people recommend but have had no luck. So what does she like? She likes Shawn McDonald and Brave Saint Saturn…and Andrew Peterson.
Andrew Peterson is a Christian, acoustic-guitar playing, singer/songwriter from Nashville who is releasing his new album “Counting Stars” today through Centricity Music. This album can best be described by the words: inspired, peaceful, poetic, pensive. Honestly, listening to this album I can feel the artists influences and surroundings: beautiful landscapes, love, God, relationships and the stories that come from these simple yet complicated aspects of life.
These songs, or stories as it seems, are put to beautiful melodies and are complimented by Andrew’s peaceful voice. Each song gives us a look into the personal life, memories and soul of this experienced artist; and to me, it’s what puts this album above most other singer/songwriters releasing music these days. It’s not about selling records or trying to invoke emotions from the listener – it’s about the heart of the artist and his art.
Check out Andrew Peterson and his album “Counting Stars” to hear the music that soothed the soul of my fussy baby and brought a peaceful, beautiful atmosphere into my home.
New Music Tuesday:deeflash
Those mk837 guys are on fire lately! Deeflash just released his newest single “Missing You” with some killer remixes by Dima, Kevin Oneel and The Tribesman. I could sit here and write a whole blog on why you should check out the release but instead I’ll give you the inside scoop on this track that you can read WHILE listening to the song.
So…
STEP 1: listen to a sample of “Missing You” original mix by clicking play below:

STEP 2: read my story. For those of you that don’t know, I work for a trade show management company. What’s that you say? Well, in the simplest terms, we manage trade shows at the Javits Center in NYC. So that means that 4 times/ year, when the shows I work on occur, I have to go to the city for a week of work. The company is very generous and puts us up in nice hotels in midtown and pays for our meals and all that but for a happily married couple, it’s a bit rough on us. I miss Chris like crazy and well, as this song proclaims in the title, he misses me too. This is a song that Chris wrote for me while I was away. It’s one of the sweetest things a guy can do. So as a result…my face is on the cover (and yes, it’s an old pic). I’d explain the reasoning behind the artwork but I find that it’s better to let people interpret it as they see fit. A lot of times art has an amazing way of expressing things that you don’t even see when you create the art piece. God is so cool that way.
STEP 3: Head over to iTunes or beatport or here and purchase the release. Not only are you supporting Chris/deeflash & the guys at MK837, you’re keeping good Christian electronic music alive. With so much crappy music out there, why not support the artists who are putting out quality music that won’t eat away at your soul?

New Music Tuesday:Brother Brooks
Some people say that in order to get to know a musician, you have to get to know his music. Nothing could be more true, as evident by MK837‘s newest release: Brother Brooks’ downtempo album, Salt Symphony. For those of you who don’t know Brother Brooks on a personal level, you’ll just have to trust me when I say that this full length album is a musical representation of who he is and what he’s all about.
I’ve had the privilege to listen to this album before it’s official debut and I can honestly say that it’ll stay on my iPod for the following reasons:
- Every song is different. No matter how much I like an artist, if you give me an album of 10 songs that all sound alike, I’ll only make it through 5 of them before switching to something else. This album is not like that. Each track is a musical journey in itself.
- No song is over 6 and a half minutes. I love electronic music but getting me to listen to a 10 minute track is as impossible as getting me to like ghetto rap music. It just ain’t happenin.
- When I hear tracks such as “Single Serving” and “Salt Symphony,” I can picture Brooks at Cornerstone dancing to his own music. There is something nice about an artist that loves his art.
- There is an overwhelming innocence to some of the tracks. “Simple Taste” and “Sleep Child” bring me to a place of peace and simplicity. I don’t often find that in electronic music.
- “Layover” is one of the coolest, most original tracks I’ve heard in a while.
- The album is just plain good. You can tell how much Brother Brooks believes in his music and has fun creating it.
Think it’s worth a try? Head on over to MK837′s Release Page to preview the album and order it through your favorite download site.

New Music Tuesday:Dave Richards
MK837 artist Dave Richards just released his tribal tech house track “Explorer” on iTunes (and other download sites) today! The release comes with 3 hot remixes by Kevin Oneel, deeflash and Harry Hotspur that all add a new twist to the original track. Check out the songs here and then head over to iTunes or MK837′s store and own them for your ride home (don’t you just love digital downloads?).

I Need Your Help!
Every so often I reach this point where I’m just completely BORED with the music I have and completely TURNED OFF by the new music on the radio. So what’s a girl to do? Well this girl has been listening to a lot of older music while killing time trying to find awesome new music.
Can ya help a girl out? I need some new tunes! But there is a disclaimer…
I want GOOD music. And here is my definition of GOOD: The music must be from an artist who has integrity. Christian or not-Christian, I refuse to listen to any song that curses, talks negatively about relationships and women, references money or items in an envious way, talks about getting drunk or sexual images or is depressing in nature. This cuts out the majority of the music I’ve been hearing when scanning the radio but what can I say – I love music and I’m so not letting that crap into my life on a regular basis. Oh, and I’m completely anti auto-tune. It’s on every song and I’ve developed a huge resistance to the sound.
So with that being said…here’s the genres I’m into lately:
- I’ll be honest…and I realize I might lose some friends over this…but I’m liking country music lately. Me and the Rascal Flatts hang out every day in my head. So any good country music you can recommend?
- I love the dance beats but for me to really enjoy it while in the car, I need some vocals baby. And high energy. Energy is gooood.
- I’m back into ska for some reason. Five Iron Frenzy is often on but does anyone have any good recommendations – even if it’s old ska? I used to love 311 and Less Than Jake if that helps (ok ok they’re not 100% ska…but you get what I mean).
- Good rock n’ roll. Whether classic rock or modern…I like to rock.
- Always a fan of punk & pop-punk.
So that’s my list…I know you can help. Please do! I’m going crazy!
New Music Tuesday:Sixteen Cities
“I wanna come closer, but I’d feel so out of place/You’re so beautiful, but I’m still ashamed/That after all I’ve done, I’ve fallen from grace/Are these hands I raise only raised in vain?”
Any idea where this is from? No it’s not my personal journal. And it’s definitely not from the top 40 radio station. It’s actually the opening lyrics to Sixteen Cities‘ “Come As You Are” from their soon-to-be-released self-titled debut album. Impressed? Well, you should be. Centricity Music has given me a sneak peak at this album and I can honestly say that if you took away the music, this album would still leave you moved.
Portland, Oregon’s Sixteen Cities brings powerful lyrics that can easily stand on their own, but combining them with beautiful melodies makes this band an up-and-coming favorite to watch. So what does it sound like? The band has been compared to The Fray and The Afters. Personally I would add Tenth Avenue North and Nitengale to that list as well. This Christian Contemporary Rock band has a very piano-driven sound which really brings the music and lyrics together in a way that will send you diving straight into worship by track 3.
So why haven’t you heard them before? You may have if you caught them on tour with Sanctus Real or Building 429 but chances are if you’re not in a public school auditorium, they’re still unknown to you. “We started out by leading our peers in worship on Wednesday mornings and we fell in love with it,” recalls Josiah (lead vocals/piano), citing the group’s moniker inspired by the tribe of Issachâr in Joshua 19 that also understood the current needs of its generation. “As soon as we graduated, we all prayed and sought God’s true heart and will. We felt called to full time music ministry, but knew nothing about the music industry. We started playing in the Portland area and four years later we got a phone call from a guy with a ministry called Common Ground. It’s basically a huge production with concerts, games and a gospel presentation in a public school. So here we were thinking we’d have no chance to continue singing to students after having just graduated, and we wound up in front of hundreds and sometimes thousands of teenagers in gymnasiums singing about Jesus.”
Although they got their start playing to youth, don’t write them off as a band that you wouldn’t be interested in. The lyrics to each song are so personal and moving that it would be a shame if you never heard them. And it makes sense, Josiah reveals, “I’ve always written with a more personal approach because I believe it’s important to show God’s a real person in my life and not just someone I only talk about with Christianese lingo. In starting out in the public school system, you realize it’s really important to never come across judgmental or condemning and introduce Christ in a relevant way. It’s all about showing them how real God is and to encourage them to rise above the status quo and truly live for Christ. Sixteen Cities is more about challenging and pressing kids to make the most of what God has for their lives rather than living a life of complacency.”
Sixteen Cities’ debut album will be for sale in 1 week, on April 20th, but for now, you can hear some of their music through their website: www.sixteencities.com and myspace. But don’t forget to purchase their album next week!
New Music Tuesday:The Classic Crime
Tooth & Nail’s The Classic Crime is releasing a brand new album today entitled Vagabonds. The Classic Crime is a great rock band out of Seattle who started gaining attention back in 2006. Although they’ve been on tour with known Christian bands such as Emery, Anberlin and Relient K and are often found on the Christian playlists, The Classic Crime has gone on record and said that they are not a “Christian band.”
Lead singer Matt MacDonald explains, “We believe faith is personal, and can be only held by an individual person. To entitle a group ‘Christian’ would be to assume that the group has a collective soul, or at least individual souls tied to a solid collective belief. Not everyone in our band is decidedly set in their faith, and we respect that.”
But before you go all religious and decide to write them off as another band you can’t listen to because you’ll never hear your pastor recommend them or your worship leader cover their latest hit, give them a try. I can vouch for this band being worth a listen. (Click here if you don’t see an mp3 player below)
New Music Tuesday:Owl City
For those of you living under a box or perhaps under the boardwalk, it’s hard to ignore the synthetic sounds of Owl City (check out my first post about him here). His music video for “Vanilla Twilight” was released last week and in case you haven’t seen it yet, here it is for New Music Tuesday. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. (If you don’t see a video below, click here!)
New Music Tuesday:Deas Vail
*Whoops! Today is Wednesday, isn’t it?
Today’s post is a guest post by Chris Reiche aka Deeflash aka my husband. Enjoy!
Today I would like to highlight Deas Vail, a great band out of Arkansas signed to Mono Vs. Stereo.
Last October they released their fourth album, Birds & Cages, and it is a really great album full of melodies and lyrics that stick with you. I can listen to the album straight through multiple times and have it not grow old.
My own favorite picks off the album are “Dance In Perfect Time” and “The Great Physician”.
New Music Tuesday:Me in Motion
Ever heard of Me in Motion? Well if you haven’t, you probably will soon. This up-and-coming trio has been rocking the stage with the Newsboys and Sanctus Real all before releasing their debut full-length album. Now that’s what I call a quick rise in the music industry! But don’t think it’s by chance, lead singer/guitarist Seth Mosley says, “I had so many songs in my head screaming to be heard. I didn’t care if it was ever a big commercial success or not. I just knew I couldn’t spend the next twenty years sitting in a recording studio. Enter Me In Motion. We formed the band, hit the road and haven’t looked back since.”
Similar to Christian rock bands: Search the City, Dizmas and Stellar Kart, Me in Motion cannot help but include their faith in their rock ‘n roll sound. With tracks titled “The God I Know” and “You Move Me,” this band writes songs with the vision to inspire true, tangible Christianity. The lyrics are real and relate-able and the music is powerful and catchy. It’s a perfect balance that will surely capture the hearts of many soon to be fans. Although it’s their first full length album, the self-titled Me in Motion album is as well produced and put together as many seasoned artists. Each song is unique and inspired – leaving its listeners with a beat in their head and lyrics to repeat throughout the day. Whether you’re a fan of pop-like sing-a-long songs or stadium-worthy worship ballads, Me in Motion has something that’ll hook you. The only problem I have with the album is that it ends too quickly! But, there is nothing better than leaving listeners wanting more. And that’s exactly what they’ve done.
Me in Motion’s self-titled album will be out next Tuesday, March 23rd through Centricity Music. In the meantime, head over to their website to pre-order their album and catch up with the Seth, Tim and Brian on the social networking site of your choice.
Music Tuesday Spotlight:MK837
This week I am excited to give you a deeper look at the brand new music label, MK837. You may be hearing the buzz about this label through facebook, twitter and Tastyfresh but I’m here to bring you the first interview with the artists behind this God-inspired project.
Real Names:
DR: Dave Richards… oh wait my real name… David Richardson
Label Name:
MK837
Genre of Music:
Electronic Dance Music (Breaks, House, Tech house, Progressive House)
How this label came to be:
DR: I’m sure we all have a different story. For me, it was a
combination of wanting a new challenge and answering the encouragement
given by Joseph Mercado of Next Dimension Music and many in the
community at Tastyfresh.com. There of course was this other issue that
I could never find the right label to shop tracks to. It’s not that
I’m a no talent hack, but that my “sound” is just different from the
labels I kept shopping tracks to.
KN: I’d previously had stints running BTU Recordings and Tektak Music.
For various reasons, neither label really worked out. Dave had
mentioned starting a record label several years ago, so I decided it
was a good idea to have a go with Dave. Chris is really skilled at his
craft as well, so it only made sense to include him as well.
CR: Like Dave, I had been producing a bunch of really great tracks
that were having a hard time getting signed for labels because they
didn’t sound like every other track the label had already signed.
Rather than compromising my sound, I felt it was time to start
releasing my tracks myself but I did not want to sacrifice
distribution by only being able to put my tracks on a limited amount
of sites. After talking with Dave and Kevin, I found that were all in
similar situations and pooling our experience together made the most
sense.
What is the Purpose/Vision for your label? Explain:
DR: Overall, it’s simple: Good music with a high level of integrity.
We want to our fans and our artists to feel that we are on the level
with them and providing them quality music and well… service in the
case of the artist.
KN: Our label exists to be an example of how to run a successful label
and maintain a certain standard of quality, be it musical quality or
professional quality. Labels like NDM have set the bar for what a
label run by Christians should be. We hope to use their example and
raise the bar yet again.
CR: I feel that our label exists also as an outlet to reach out into a
community where it is sometimes rare to find individuals who care
about helping people succeed rather than labels that are only trying
to make themselves succeed. I feel that being people of integrity and
working with others with honesty will shine a light into the dance
music community.
Where do you see the label in 3 years? 5 years? 10 years?:
DR: Either thriving or gone. Either way… without debt. Ideally, on
Beatport.com. It would be cool to be on Sasha’s regular top 10 or
something like that. The bottom line though is that if we have a good
product, good marketing and a good reputation, we should be around and
thriving nicely for a very long time.
KN: I think we can be a very successful label in three years.
Everything’s in place to make it happen. We just have to keep
polishing our perfection, so to speak. There’s no reason any music
label shouldn’t be successful. Sometimes, you just have to step back
and determine what’s going wrong. If we fail, it’s because we didn’t
properly analyze our shortcomings.
Would you put out “Non-Christian” music? What qualities will you look for in an artist?:
DR: Yes. Yes we will release “non-Christian” music and even some music
written by non-Christians as well. What we won’t do is put something
out that rubs wrong up against Philippians 4:8. We don’t exist to
exclude. We’re a label run by Christians with integrity. We’re not a
Christian label that is only concerned with pleasing Christians who
are looking for music by other Christians. Kevin will speak more to
this, but what qualifies you as an artist we want to sign is good
music that I’m not afraid to let my wife and son listen to AND at the
same time, it must be able to destroy the dancefloor.
KN: Absolutely! Christ didn’t just speak in church, did he? If we’re
to reach the world, we have to be in the world. Just because you’re in
the world doesn’t mean you have to be of the world. That doesn’t mean
we’re going to allow just anyone on our label though. There are
certain production standards that have to be met in order for us to
release. Being the gatekeeper of the label, so to speak, I’m looking
for crisp production, clean sounds, quality content, and style within
the scope of the label.
CR: I agree, in order for us to reach the world for Christ, we cannot
pick and choose who we “accept” into our circles and who we exclude.
God is giving us a voice into the dance music culture and in order to
reach that culture we need to be able to work with all sorts of people
and show them what Christ’s love is like.
What are the benefits of working with MK837?:
DR: For us? None. It’s all work. Especially right now. For the
artists, it’s a chance to work with people who will do what they say
they are going to do.
KN: We’re going to do our best to give the artist a fair shake. Plus,
free donuts on Thursdays!
CR: Kevin, I will be expecting fresh donuts delivered to my door on
Thursday morning.
What can we expect to see from the label in it’s first few months?:
DR: I just finished reviewing our releases for the next few months.
You’ll see a lot from the three of us. Later in the year though, we’ll
be expanding our releases to include both new and familiar faces.
KN: Lots of really cool stuff! Just keep checking back on mk837.com to
be up to date. Also, join us on facebook at facebook.com/mk837
CR: Like Dave said, we’re gonna be releasing a lot of stuff from the
three of us that we’ve been holding on to and are ready to release to
the wild. In the months following those releases, we’ll have some
really solid releases from some other great artists.
What are you most excited about?:
DR: Learning how to do something new and putting to use what I’ve
learned over the past few years running Tastyfresh.com and promoting
my own music. It’s just a new adventure for me with some new benefits.
KN: Having a successful project with people I respect, whom I also get
to call friends. I’m also excited about not having to do everything
myself, which is taking a bit of getting used to. Ha!
CR: I’m excited about getting these tracks out that are some of my
best yet. I’m really looking forward to working with some new artists
and helping them get their music out there.
Links to your music/Contact you:
www.mk837.com is all you need to know. From there you will find
demo submission information, our social networking pages, the latest
news, release information, Kevin’s free album and more.
Anything else you want my readers to know:
DR: I’ll take the 5th on this.
KN: I’m listening to “The Cardigans” while typing this.
CR: Sidechain your basslines.
Music Tuesday:Mark Roach
Sunday morning during our praise & worship service my ears, heart & soul were introduced to a new song. It’s not a new song as it came out in 2007 but to me, it was brand new and real exciting. It’s the passionate, energetic voice of Mark Roach
singing “A Thousand Hallelujahs.” To be honest, I’d never heard of Mark Roach until this week but I’m a fan now! This praise & worship artist has an album of songs that will immediately but your heart in a place of worship and your mind in a state of peace. Not into the whole “Christian Praise & Worship” genre? Give it a shot anyway. For me.

My name is Jessica and I'm a proverb31girl. These are my thoughts on living a proverb31 girl life. I invite you to join me on this journey!
