What’s the Buzz?

What’s the Buzz?

I’ve been using the Google Buzz lately with a few friends and to be honest, I haven’t really figured out a productive way to use it. But it’s sure fun writing things that don’t matter and having people comment on them.

For instance – April 2, 2010:

Jessica Reiche -what’s the buzzzzz people? haha
Andrew Silverman - That was so corny even I wouldn’t have said it! (I think I like it though)
Jessica Reiche - haha well we all can’t be me
Andrew Silverman - No, that might be scary!

See? Pointless. But fun.

So with the crazy warm, beautifully sunny NY weather we’re having I decided to keep with this “pointless, but fun” theme for my blog post today. I want to know what you guys are into lately. Ya know, movies, tv, music, games etc.

I’ll start it off…here’s what I’m into lately:

Movies: Still obsessed with “Dan in Real Life”. Brought “Hot Rod” back into the rotation of movies. Really loved “Whip It” and can’t wait to buy it once it’s under $20. Looking forward to checking out the Alvin and the Chipmunks Squeakquel & Toy Story 3 when it’s released in May.

TV: On a hiatus from the Gilmore Girls but found a new way to watch hilarious Lauren Graham. On Tuesdays she’s now on the new show Parenthood (loosely based on the 1980s movie). I’m also into 10 Things I Hate About You (loosely based on the 1990s movie & very loosely based on Shakespeare). Scrubs seems to be on break but still enjoying The Office & 30 Rock. From the DVD I have to admit that I still enjoy an episode of 2 of Hannah Montana. Yes, I’m 10 years old.

Music: Have to say that I’m really into Neon Horse right now. And Hawk Nelson. And actually listening to some old Christian ska music like Five Iron Frenzy. Digging the Beatles as always and Daft Punk is always on the list.

Books: Chris’ mom lent me a book called “Plain Perfect” that I’m digging but most of my reading time is spent in the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” book and “Baby Wise” as well as the bible. I’m reading through 2 Corinthians right now but keep getting drawn back to the Psalms every few days.

Hobbies: I’m working on a cross-stitch for Charlotte. It’s really cute. I hope to finish it before she turns 3 haha. Also enjoying my hunt for coupons and great ways to save money now that we have some new expenses coming our way.

So that’s it for me. How about you? What are you into?

Scrapbooking

I’ve always wanted to scrapbook. I see the creations that people come up with and I get so excited to try it myself. I think it’s so cool to combine pictures and memories of your life with creativity. However, I’m a cheapo and have no idea where to start…so I never do.

I once bought a nice scrapbook thinking I would jump right in if I made the first step and purchased something. I think you can see where this is going…a year later I ended up giving it to a friend because I never used it. But here I am again having this urge to be a scrapbooker.

Does anyone have advice on how a money-conscious girl could get started? I often find myself going into a store, finding the scrapbooking section and either be completely intimidated by all of the choices and/or floored by how much this little hobby of mine will cost. Any help or advice you could give would be great. Or just let me know that I’m not alone and you haven’t started either :)

Thanks everyone! I hope you all have a great weekend!

Rain

Rain

Today is a rainy day here in NY and the weather man is predicting a good amount of days until we see sunshine again. So of course, it gets me thinking and analyzing…2 things I do WAY too much. And I’ve come to this conclusion: rain has 2 effects of me. I either get really happy or really sad. There isn’t much in between.

Some days I have the typical “rainy day, rainy mood” reaction. I see rain and I immediately think of everything the day is lacking: sunshine, warmth, brightness, and the ability to do many of my favorite activities which take place outdoors. Suddenly the day seems longer and I don’t feel like doing too much. My smile becomes more like a sarcastic smirk and soon turns to a cartoonish frown. I don’t want to listen to upbeat music so my acoustic “gray” music doesn’t do anything to cheer my spirit. I feel like writing the blues (since I’m not a singer I don’t sing the blues too well).

But then there are the other days.

Some days I have the optimistic approach to a rainy day. I now have an excuse to stay indoors and watch a great movie rather than bog myself down with the “I should be outside enjoying this weather” mentality. My other hobbies flourish in rainy weather: writing, reading, graphic design, dancing, song writing, scrapbooking, quilting…ok ok I haven’t exactly taken up scrapbooking and quilting yet but I really want to! The rainy day becomes my challenge to overcome the easy option #1 mentioned above. I have the opportunity to rise above the gray and put a smile on my face. Rain doesn’t cause a frown, we frown because it’s raining. I can still laugh at a funny joke and have a great conversation with a friend. If I’m home I can finally reorganize my clothes and do the other things I don’t do because I want to be outside. And who needs a better reason to put on some warm clothes and make (or purchase) some (fill in your favorite hot beverage: coffee, tea, espresso drink, hot chocolate with marshmellows, hot apple cider…)?

Thinking about it. Some of my favorite days have been “rainy happy days”…sometimes just without the rain.

sing in the rainSo it seems to me that this isn’t only a blog about rain…it’s about life. It’s about having the option to choose how your day goes and what you do with the hours that you are given.

Make the right choice whether it’s raining where you are or not. We more often remember the good days than the bad ones. Strive to have good ones.
