Fun Friday Video!

It’s an allergy-filled, rainy Friday so in my house that means it’s a day to watch Yo Gabba Gabba! It’s my little girl’s favorite show and to be honest, I like it too. So we of course watched my favorite episode “New Friends” which had Jack Black as a full-episode guest star. I love Jack Black and can honestly say I laughed the whole episode. So for my friday video here is a clip of one of my favorite parts of the show!

Youtube won’t let me embed the video so click here to watch it!

Happy Weekend and don’t forget to enter my giveaway that ends tomw morning!

Friday Dance Montage Video!

Life has really been crazy, busy and emotional lately. It’s been hard for me to get my thoughts together enough to write a blog or 2 or 3. So I’m hoping next week I’ll be back to a regular posting/writing routine. But until then, please enjoy this video of the 3 things that have helped me stay smiling and sane this month of July…funny tv shows, movies and dancing/dance music :) Happy Friday. Happy Weekend. Just Dance.

Fun Friday Video!

It’s Friday isn’t it? Here’s the video Charly and I went crazy dancing to this morning – hope you love it!

Fun Friday Video!

For any of you that have been reading my blog for a while you know that I used to have a Friday tradition. I broke from the “norm” and posted a fun video to start the weekend right! It usually was some kind of funny dance or song but it really just depended on my mood for that day. Well, I’ve decided to bring it back. There are just too many serious things going on in the world, I think we all need a day to let loose and laugh a little!

So, here is my fun video of the day. I’ve watched this multiple times over the past month and I just can’t resist sharing with you. I hope you enjoy it and have a great Independence Day weekend!

…but wait! If you are in the need for MORE laughs, click on “friday” in the tag cloud to the right and check out previous friday posts!

Music Tuesday Spotlight:G-Powered

Music Tuesday Spotlight:G-Powered

Hey readers! Today I have a really exciting interview to share with you. Meet G-Powered, a  Christian vocal trance group out of Finland! Don’t forget to learn more about this group and their music by visiting their website & watching their videos below. Through their website you can learn how to hook up with them on facebook, myspace, twitter & all of those fun sites. Enjoy!

Real Names: Kimmo Korpela & Miia Rautkoski

Band/DJ/Artist Name: G-Powered

Genre of Music: Eurodance and Vocal Trance

How/Why You Became a Musician:

Miia: It has been my dream to became a real musician since very early childhood. I have sang pretty much through my whole life.

Kimmo: When I was young, I tried to find gospel eurodance everywhere, but I didn’t find it very much. So I decided to begin to do it myself. I went to a piano school just for learning to make music.

Is There a Purpose/Vision to your music? Explain: Our vision is to do energetic and inspiring music with touching lyrics. We enjoy music of this genre and we share the same vision to do our best with our skills.

Best/Favorite Music-related Experience (doesn’t have to be related to your music):

Miia: Rollerskate towards sunset at downhill and listen to dance music. It is something that really makes me feel good!

Kimmo: In the end of year 2007 I got a mail from international Machine Dance Game company and they wanted our song to their game. They have found us from MySpace. One of my favourite experiences is also our first concert in Maata Näkyvissä -festival main stage year 2008 for thousands of people.

What did you grow up listening to?

Miia: Well at early in my life I listened music my big sister used to listen, like Take that and Boyzone. I also sang with my mother who used to
sing more religious songs with guitar. Afterwards I started to listen more dance music and music releated that genre.

Kimmo: I grow up listening a lot of finnish gospel pop and rock music my dad used to listen. I liked melodies of many gospel songs, but the music style of the songs didn’t inspire me. I also listened many dance artists, but I didn’t like their lyrics. First time I heard some dance music I wanted very much to move and dance and I realized that is my style. It affected straight to my heart – literally :)

Your music sounds like (ie: other bands/DJs people might like): E-Type, Cascada, Armin Van Buuren etc.

Music Tuesday Spotlight:MK837

Music Tuesday Spotlight:MK837

This week I am excited to give you a deeper look at the brand new music label, MK837. You may be hearing the buzz about this label through facebook, twitter and Tastyfresh but I’m here to bring you the first interview with the artists behind this God-inspired project.

Real Names:

DR: Dave Richards… oh wait my real name… David Richardson

KN: Kevin Neely

CR: Chris “deeflash” Reiche

Label Name:

MK837

Genre of Music:

Electronic Dance Music (Breaks, House, Tech house, Progressive House)

How this label came to be:

DR: I’m sure we all have a different story. For me, it was a
combination of wanting a new challenge and answering the encouragement
given by Joseph Mercado of Next Dimension Music and many in the
community at Tastyfresh.com. There of course was this other issue that
I could never find the right label to shop tracks to. It’s not that
I’m a no talent hack, but that my “sound” is just different from the
labels I kept shopping tracks to.

KN: I’d previously had stints running BTU Recordings and Tektak Music.
For various reasons, neither label really worked out. Dave had
mentioned starting a record label several years ago, so I decided it
was a good idea to have a go with Dave. Chris is really skilled at his
craft as well, so it only made sense to include him as well.

CR: Like Dave, I had been producing a bunch of really great tracks
that were having a hard time getting signed for labels because they
didn’t sound like every other track the label had already signed.
Rather than compromising my sound, I felt it was time to start
releasing my tracks myself but I did not want to sacrifice
distribution by only being able to put my tracks on a limited amount
of sites. After talking with Dave and Kevin, I found that were all in
similar situations and pooling our experience together made the most
sense.

What is the Purpose/Vision for your label? Explain:

DR: Overall, it’s simple: Good music with a high level of integrity.
We want to our fans and our artists to feel that we are on the level
with them and providing them quality music and well… service in the
case of the artist.

KN: Our label exists to be an example of how to run a successful label
and maintain a certain standard of quality, be it musical quality or
professional quality. Labels like NDM have set the bar for what a
label run by Christians should be. We hope to use their example and
raise the bar yet again.

CR: I feel that our label exists also as an outlet to reach out into a
community where it is sometimes rare to find individuals who care
about helping people succeed rather than labels that are only trying
to make themselves succeed. I feel that being people of integrity and
working with others with honesty will shine a light into the dance
music community.

Where do you see the label in 3 years? 5 years? 10 years?:

DR: Either thriving or gone. Either way… without debt. Ideally, on
Beatport.com. It would be cool to be on Sasha’s regular top 10 or
something like that. The bottom line though is that if we have a good
product, good marketing and a good reputation, we should be around and
thriving nicely for a very long time.

KN: I think we can be a very successful label in three years.
Everything’s in place to make it happen. We just have to keep
polishing our perfection, so to speak. There’s no reason any music
label shouldn’t be successful. Sometimes, you just have to step back
and determine what’s going wrong. If we fail, it’s because we didn’t
properly analyze our shortcomings.

Would you put out “Non-Christian” music? What qualities will you look for in an artist?:

DR: Yes. Yes we will release “non-Christian” music and even some music
written by non-Christians as well. What we won’t do is put something
out that rubs wrong up against Philippians 4:8. We don’t exist to
exclude. We’re a label run by Christians with integrity. We’re not a
Christian label that is only concerned with pleasing Christians who
are looking for music by other Christians. Kevin will speak more to
this, but what qualifies you as an artist we want to sign is good
music that I’m not afraid to let my wife and son listen to AND at the
same time, it must be able to destroy the dancefloor.

KN: Absolutely! Christ didn’t just speak in church, did he? If we’re
to reach the world, we have to be in the world. Just because you’re in
the world doesn’t mean you have to be of the world. That doesn’t mean
we’re going to allow just anyone on our label though. There are
certain production standards that have to be met in order for us to
release. Being the gatekeeper of the label, so to speak, I’m looking
for crisp production, clean sounds, quality content, and style within
the scope of the label.

CR: I agree, in order for us to reach the world for Christ, we cannot
pick and choose who we “accept” into our circles and who we exclude.
God is giving us a voice into the dance music culture and in order to
reach that culture we need to be able to work with all sorts of people
and show them what Christ’s love is like.

What are the benefits of working with MK837?:

DR: For us? None. It’s all work. Especially right now. For the
artists, it’s a chance to work with people who will do what they say
they are going to do.

KN: We’re going to do our best to give the artist a fair shake. Plus,
free donuts on Thursdays!

CR: Kevin, I will be expecting fresh donuts delivered to my door on
Thursday morning.

What can we expect to see from the label in it’s first few months?:

DR: I just finished reviewing our releases for the next few months.
You’ll see a lot from the three of us. Later in the year though, we’ll
be expanding our releases to include both new and familiar faces.

KN: Lots of really cool stuff! Just keep checking back on mk837.com to
be up to date. Also, join us on facebook at facebook.com/mk837

CR: Like Dave said, we’re gonna be releasing a lot of stuff from the
three of us that we’ve been holding on to and are ready to release to
the wild. In the months following those releases, we’ll have some
really solid releases from some other great artists.

What are you most excited about?:

DR: Learning how to do something new and putting to use what I’ve
learned over the past few years running Tastyfresh.com and promoting
my own music. It’s just a new adventure for me with some new benefits.

KN: Having a successful project with people I respect, whom I also get
to call friends. I’m also excited about not having to do everything
myself, which is taking a bit of getting used to. Ha!

CR: I’m excited about getting these tracks out that are some of my
best yet. I’m really looking forward to working with some new artists
and helping them get their music out there.

www.mk837.com is all you need to know. From there you will find
demo submission information, our social networking pages, the latest
news, release information, Kevin’s free album and more.

Anything else you want my readers to know:

DR: I’ll take the 5th on this.

KN: I’m listening to “The Cardigans” while typing this.

CR: Sidechain your basslines.

This Friday’s Dance

This Friday’s Dance

Honestly, the first time I saw this I was confused. The second time I laughed. The third time I sang and danced along. At this point, it’s just classic and needs to be watched on a Friday. Enjoy!!

**I love how God works. I picked out this video last week, not knowing that it’s exactly what I needed to watch today to make me smile. Thank you God!

Another Friday Dance!

New Music Tuesday:David Crowder Band

New Music Tuesday:David Crowder Band

I must admit, a few years ago, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the David Crowder Band. But my experience seeing them/worshiping with them live at Cornerstone 2007 changed my mind. If you haven’t given them a try yet, now is really the time. They recently released their latest album, Church Music, and I seriously can’t stop listening to it! It’s a 73 minute non-stop musical experience unlike any Christian “rock” album I’ve heard. It takes you on a journey with musical influences from the 70s and 80s fused together with their much developed electronica sound.

Not convinced yet? How about the fact that they covered Flyleaf’s “All Around Me” in a way I never would have thought possible. And just 3 tracks later break out into a FUNKy Daft Punk-like dance track appropriately named “Dance.” Check out some of the tracks below!

New Music Tuesday: Britt Nicole

New Music Tuesday: Britt Nicole

Britt Nicole is a fresh, young artist who decided to take the “multi path” musical journey on her first album “Say It.” She has hit Contemporary Christian songs on the radio. Songs such as You and Don’t Worry Now may sound familiar to you thanks to Christian radio stations in the US and Europe. But if you buy the full album you’ll quickly realize that there is much more to Britt than the radio allows.

Each track will bring you to a different story and a different emotion that many people can relate to. It’s not just about singing a fairly well written song to a non-aggitative beat…it’s about life and all that comes along with it, no matter who you are. With dance beats as catchy as the mainstream pop world but lyrics that will bring you to tears, this album is worth a listen…even if you’re not a pop fan. And if you like it, good news! Her second album “The Lost Get Found” will be out soon AND she’s out on tour. Give her a try!

Love, Hate and Coffee

I’m torn between 2 topics to write about. Both are weighing heavy on my heart and therefore I’ve decided to combine the two. Please excuse the chaos.

The past few mornings I’ve been waking up with “Praise the Lamb” – Alli Rogers stuck in my head. Not really hard to figure out why, it’s the song we’re presenting a dance to on Sunday in church. (All are welcome to come by the way! Sunday 10am @ connections church in wappingers falls). So this morning I woke up singing this song. Then realized my head was still pounding from the migraine I developed yesterday and I was going to take a sick day, so I went back to bed. When I re-awoke at 10:45am (yup!! haha it felt goood) I was singing a different tune. It was non other than the Beatles’ song “All you need is love.” Now it could be because every blog and tweet I read is chatting about the Beatles’ Rock Band coming out. Or it could be that my life is surrounded by love and although it’s not all I need, it sure is a big part of it. Comments/thoughts welcome on this!

Now this transitions me oh so horribly into my 2nd blog topic.

I have a love/hate relationship with coffee. My gosh I love the taste so much. I have a physical passion for it’s taste, a mental craving for it’s comfort and an emotional drawing because of past memories over coffee. However. I do know that it’s not good to literally love coffee. And I know that it’s the reason for the migraine I had for 20 hours over the past 2 days (yes, yikes).  Let me explain.

Coffee does not give me migraines. BUT coffee takes the place of drinking alternative beverages such as, oh I don’t know, WATER. My body is seriously dehydrated this past week due to my increasing consumption of coffee and therefore decreasing consumption of water. So little water + caffeine over 3 days = massive migraine.

So one would think that I would now be like “oh my gosh give me water.” I wish that were the case folks. I’m craving it so bad. It’s so hard to sit at home and not make myself a ginormous pot of coffee and refill my beautiful ceramic mug over and over again while watching the most ridiculous movies until Chris comes home. So I took the high road. The coffee stays in the jar, the mug stays on the shelf and a bottle of water is sitting in front of me. And this transitions me even worse than before into my last thought of the day.

This is the 3rd time in the past week or 2 that this thought came to mind, so I think I’ll share it with you. In life we’re usually given 2 options. We can take the high road or the low road. The hard choice or the easy choice. The wide or the narrow. Do you have it in you to choose the right one?

SPREADTHE(dance)WORD

Normally I blog about things going on at a specific time in my life. Well on July 7, 2006 I committed to letting Chris be “going on” in my life, for the rest of my life. So technically, this post is as relevant to my blog as any other post.

Most of you know but hey, maybe someone doesn’t. My husband, Chris, has an alterego. He goes by the name deeflash. So who is deeflash? Deeflash is a music producer, a DJ, an experimental extraudinaire and an all around talented man! The thing is. Deeflash is shy and doesn’t go around boasting about how great his musical stylin’ is. So I decided that as his wife, it should be my job to tell the world about what they’re missing out on.

So without further adu, please take the time to listen to deeflash’s latest podcast…and maybe you can even get a little crazy and subscribe to his podcast and hear it every time he records a mix! Every month is a little different musically but spiritually, it’s always the same. Deeflash does his best to deliver what God is saying to him through music. So here we go. Open up your mind, get comfy (or get ready to dance, whichever your preference!) and have a listen!
