K.I.S.S.

Lately I’ve had K.I.S.S. on my heart. No, I’m not talking about kissing (although it is mistletoe season!), I’m talking about Keep It Simple Stupid.

Left and right I’m reading books and devotionals and blogs that go so far in depth with scripture, theories and beliefs that I have to stop reading. My brain seriously cannot grasp what people are trying to say. Now I’m sure if I sat down with some extra time and read slowly, I would get something out of these well written pieces of art, but is that really the point of writing them? Lately I’m really questioning the motives of some writers. Are you writing to touch someone and have your readers get something out of what you’re saying…or are you writing to prove your intelligence/spiritual depth? Because honestly, I know more people that aren’t “smart,” than are “smart.” And no one likes feeling stupid.

For me, I write the way I talk and therefore, hope that it’s just as easy to read and understand me as it is to have a conversation with me. It’s what I prefer to read so I guess it’s the style of writing I’ve developed.

I don’t know who I’m writing this to or why I’m writing it…but there it is. It’s a challenge for anyone that writes. What’s your motive for writing? Do you need to K.I.S.S.?
